Business Services Accountant

Full-time, 37.5 hrs
The Role
You'll take on your own portfolio of clients — delivering their bookkeeping, VAT and CIS work to a high standard, and being the friendly, reliable point of contact they come to first. This isn't a back-office processing role: our Business Services accountants are deliberately given the time and space to build real relationships, spotting issues early and flagging opportunities. As you grow into the role, that extends into advisory work.
What You'll Be Doing
Your own client portfolio
Delivering bookkeeping, VAT and MTD returns and CIS work in Xero and FreeAgent.
A proactive point of contact
Explaining things in a way that actually makes sense — not just filing returns.
Deadlines and workflow
Managing your own workflow within the wider Business Services pod.
Growing into advisory
Management accounts, cashflows, budgets and spotting opportunities for clients to grow.
Working as a pod
Close collaboration with your manager and the rest of the team to keep standards high.
Are You the Right Fit?
Essential
- Comfortable working across cloud accounting software, particularly Xero and FreeAgent
- Confident talking directly to clients — by phone, email and in person
- Curious and proactive: you ask "why?" rather than just processing what's in front of you
Desirable
- Some practice experience in UK accountancy: bookkeeping, VAT and accounts work
- AAT Level 3, or actively studying towards it
- Some exposure to management accounts, cashflow forecasting or CIS/payroll
Salary & Progression
£25,000 – £37,000 depending on experience. Pay is linked to both work output and qualifications, so your next step isn't a black box — passing an exam or growing your client portfolio always moves you forward, never back.
